Oral Cancer Testing using the Identifi 3000

 

Oral cancer is not a disease that is commonly talked about, but it had an alarming growth rate of over 11% in 2007 and is still growing. In our office we are using a new instrument to screen for oral cancer called the Identafi 3000, which uses 3 unique wavelengths of light that detect oral cancer with more efficiency than the naked eye.  The first light mode used is the ‘White Light,’ which is used to examine the entire oral cavity including both the upper and lower portions of the mouth.  Next the instrument is switched to a ‘Fluorescent Violet Light,’ to identify any areas of abnormal tissue growth, which may be benign or cancerous.  Last, the instrument is switched to an ‘Amber Reflectance Light,’ to examine the blood vessels around any lesions.  This test is very simple and painless and is done at your first initial exam, then yearly with Dr. Bell at no extra cost to you!
